The Wyong Rugby League Club Group is pleased to be a contributor to its many local communities and the organisations within them. It is a core focus of the group to continue to assist the organisations that touch and assist the members and communities of the clubs.
Community support varies from financial support such as cash donations and sponsorships to the provision of goods, facilities and other resources. For example the Morry Breen oval complex is readily available to local schools and the like for carnivals and tournaments. The function rooms at Wallarah Bay are quite often used for meeting rooms for any of our many community groups. The Budgewoi Soccer fields have been used by the Central Coast Mariners for training facilities and during the year a Masters Rugby League challenge was held. Our 9 and soon to be 12 bowling greens are regularly used for charity and fundraising gala days. From time to time our dormant courtesy buses are utilised to transport small community groups from here to there. All of these facilities and activities, and many more like them are at no cost to the user.
The provision of these community benefits has always been a high priority for the group, and will continue to be.
This year the club was awarded the Clubs NSW Awards for Excellence in the large club category for the state for Encouragement of Sport. We were also recognised as a finalist in the Providing Outstanding Community Service category, which we won in 2010.
In dollar terms the financial contribution to the community for the financial year was over $2,600,000. This was made up of sporting, ground facility costs, sponsorships, donations and CDSE excluding in-kind gifts to community groups. The recipients varied from the groups own sporting teams to other local sporting teams and organisations, charities, government units, social and cultural groups from the well known to the obscure and a list of major beneficiaries is below.
We continue to support local businesses as supply partners and trade service providers where possible and our wages paid into our local communities exceed $11,700,000. As such we are one of the largest employers in our region.
